I sold my boat! Signed, sealed, almost delivered! (In typical Hannah Stella fashion, I am slightly jumping the gun with this announcement as I am as of writing, still waiting on a bank wire.) Here are two facts about my time at sea:
It is incomprehensible to me that I lived on a boat.
I do not regret the experience or expense.
Let’s start with the second part- in terms of expense, life is expensive. The alternative to living on a boat (for me, of course there are infinite alternatives), even with the loss in resale price, would have been living in New York City where I may have established a viable career more quickly but where apartments and martinis and workout classes and life are all very expensive. Plus, you cannot take a tax loss on rent! I certainly spent more money than I should have but I am at peace with that choice. I did what I felt I needed to at that point.
