I have never been a smoker or vaper, but this was so funny and relatable. The part about your boyfriend holding you accountable and your problems being magically fixed was SPOT ON.

It’s quite gross, but I had to tell myself my teeth were going to fall out when I was quitting cigarettes. There wasn’t actually any imminent danger but the knowledge that continuing to smoke made it a possibility in the future was enough for me to second guess every puff I took. Your withdrawal symptoms will ease over the next few days and you’ll feel so much better! Do not buy a pack of menthols, you may end up switching to those and be back at square one. Wishing you luck!

That's not a bad plan! I am doing okay so far, I figure if I can make it 2 or 3 days it'll be over.

I feel like vaping makes it so easy to consume wayyy more nicotine than cigs. I keep skateboard bearings in my coats, purses, on my desk. It's the perfect little fidget to keep my hands busy. Air dry clay is also very satisfying and you get a craft out of it too!

Gotta say the penchant for vapers to smoke inside does my head in - obviously do what you want in your own space but I had a boss who would shut you in his office and blow candyfloss scented vapour at you - sorry sir but I didn't sign up for secondhand smoke.

Very true though, we all have our vices and I'd never begrudge someone theirs, but I hope you have some success - I'm also of the mind that vapes are worse than cigarettes for a whole host of reasons. I never thought I'd see the day I just wished people would pick up a good old fashioned cigarette.

Honestly, I agree with you. I don't do it in other people's houses and I do think it's gross to do inside. It just doesn't linger the way cigarette smoke does so it's so much easier. I'm sorry your boss does that, it's really unprofessional. Thank you for your comment!

The dance part has me cackling because I do that at least three times a day. Back when I was 22 I was able to quit smoking cold turkey with ease. I just didn’t buy another pack and I was done. Vaping I cannot quit. The nicotine I’m ok without except the nicotine is what gives that hit in the back of your throat. Ive tried 0 nicotine vapes and these cigarette shaped sticks that you can chew on and inhale slightly cinnamon tasting air but it’s not the same. Like, I don’t have a nicotine addiction, I have an addiction to the act of inhaling and exhaling. And it’s literally so easy to do it anywhere so there aren’t those actions you have to take to go smoke. I know it’s super hard but hang in there and don’t get a pack of cigarettes to ease the transition. You’re strong and you can do this! 💕

Totally it's the same, I just like the inhaling. But it's time to quit I am so horrified every time I do it.

Do NOT get cigarettes! Cold turkey sucks for a while, but smoking a little bit just prolongs the suffering. Promise. I tried weaning off so many times. It never worked until I white knuckled it through full cold Turkey.

Good luck with this! I wish you to stick to it, though sometimes I feel like these things can feel so out of our control 😪I struggled to give up smoking for years, but then quit without a second thought cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. Now, more than 3 years later, I'm yet to smoke a cigarette. God, I miss sitting for hours in the beer gardens in the summer with all my other smoker friends. Maybe when my kids aren't little any more I can see if I can be trusted with an occasional cigarette. I miss it so much, but it's just not worth it. I do love how smoking in any form is becoming so uncool that it's going to be out of the mainstream soon.

i found that smoking cigs made it possible to quit elf bars! literally 1 cig made the side effects of elf bar quitting (feeling like i could steal one i wanted one so bad/ a massive headache) and because cigarettes are so much more socially difficult to smoke it helped me cut down to a cig on occasions girly and not an elf bar constantly in reach girly. also i read a really interesting article that said nicotine gives a tiny bit of serotonin so makes boring activities/ stationary activities more fun and knowing that seemed to help me! after about two weeks i knew i had broken the habit

God bless America this is your most relatable essay yet 😭 I started with a Juul in Dec ‘19 strictly because I thought occasionally vaping was “healthier” than the (mayyyybe once a month) rogue cig I would bum when drunk. A week later I was vaping on my couch, when I woke up to pee in the middle of the night, and going through more than one juul pod a day. I’m still at it and it’s worse than ever.

Also, my boyfriend keeps asking when I’m gonna quit and dead ass my answer is “when I get pregnant” what the fuck!!!

My husband is going through the same - quit cigarettes because of the smell etc (and health, too of course!!) but now these damn vapes are a different kind of addiction. It seems more harmless but definitely isn’t. There’s no shame to it like cigarettes. He doesn’t feel like he has to wash his hands or take a shower and doesn’t even have to go outside. I’m not the shame kind of partner either. I know he has to decide to quit to make it happen, but wow it’s just so easy to keep going 😥
